Steady in Eighth

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In their first tournament of the season, the Belmont men's golf team finished in eighth place at this week's Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational held at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. 

The Bruins shot a one-over par 285 as a team in the final round to finish in eighth place with a 54-hole mark of 848 (-4).  VCU captured the team title with a score of 821.  Dayton was second at 824. 

Three Belmont golfers finished among the top-20.  Junior Jack Uselton carded a two-under 69 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 17th place at 210.  The Tullahoma, Tennessee native finished eight shots behind the individual medalist, Kyle Schmidt of Dayton. 

Juniors Bogle LaRue and Evan Davis finished one shot back of Uselton in a tie for 20th place at 211.  LaRue shot a two-under par 69, while Davis posted a two-over 73. 

Other Belmont scores included: freshman Alex Whitehead (T-59, 220) and freshman Jack Bergstrom (T-69, 76).

Freshman Kohl Kuebler competed as an individual and tied for 55th at 219.

The men's golf team has a week off before returning to action on September 23-24 at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational outside St. Louis.
