KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - In day 2 of the ITA Ohio Valley Men's Regional, the Bruins competed in two rounds of the singles tournament, one round of the doubles tournament, and one round of the consolation singles draw. Overall, the Bruins had success and will have representatives in each of the draws.
Hendrik Inno and Marko Ilic both competed today in the singles draw. While Ilic's run in the singles draw is over, Hendrik Inno is still in the running and will be competing in the round of 16 on Saturday.
Round of 64
Hendrik Inno faced sophomore Riku Kubota of Tennessee Tech for the round of 64, and was able to find success in this matchup. He ended the match very quickly by defeating his opponent in two uncontested sets (6-2, 6-1).
Marko Ilic gave a good fight against junior Cesar Bourgois of Kentucky but was unable to defeat the SEC opponent in the end. He lost the first set 6-3, and then forced a tie breaker in the second set before losing 7-6(3).
Round of 32
Hendrik Inno kept his momentum going against sophomore Maxwell Freeman of Vanderbilt. Though Freeman battled hard in each set, Hendrik had the upper hand and defeated him in two closely contested sets (7-5,7-5).
His next opponent will be the 25th ranked player of the tournament, sophomore Mateo Julio of Purdue, Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Round of 32
Inno/Ilic took on Rodriguez/Hyatt of University of Chattanooga were clicking on all cylinders. Inno/Ilic won with the same score as yesterdays match by winning 8 games to 3 in their one set match.
Valy/Briggs faced off against Saborio/Bennett, of Purdue and though they kept the match competitive, they eventually lost 8 games to 5.
Inno/Ilic will compete in the round of 16 early in the morning at 8:30 a.m. against Rengifo/Khamis of ETSU.
Jake Briggs faced off against junior Fredrik Moe and was able to put his past match in the rear view mirror. He ended up dominating against the ACC opponent with a score of 6-2, 6-2. He will face off against Tennessee Tech's Fanis Kontopoulos at 12:00 tomorrow.
Joan Valy also found success in the consolation bracket, as he was able to defeat Tennessee Tech's Gonzalo Garcia. Valy had to play in a tie breaker set to open play today, but he was able to win the set 7-6(6). From there he was able to settle into the match and win the second set 6-3. Valy will take on Connor Lafavre of Xavier tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
