KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - Today, history was made for Belmont tennis, as Hendrik Inno and Marko Ilic defeated Timo Stodder and Preston Touliatos of Tennessee to win the ITA Ohio Valley Regional doubles tournament at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
After their big upset in which they defeated the No. 4 ranked doubles pair of the country, Cameron Klinger and Billy Rowe of Vanderbilt, nobody was sure whether their momentum was going to carry them through the title or whether a nationally recognized doubles pair in Stodder/Touliatos was going to beat them, but with the amount of heart and will they displayed in the tournament, nobody was going to stop the Euro Duo.
It was a very competitive first to two sets match throughout, but in the end, Inno/Ilic got the upper hand and won the final in two very tightly contested sets (6-4, 6-4). Here's what OVC Coach of the Year, Mauricio Antun, had to say about the big win today:
"Wow… this is just unbelievable. To be able to do what Hendrik and Marko have done this weekend takes a lot of courage, determination, and heart. I am so proud of their effort and their accomplishment. We knew coming in to the final that we had a shot to win, but if you told us in the beginning of the tournament that we would be walking out with the title on our hands, I would have said you were crazy. Huge congrats to both of them. Those two are such hard-working kids, and they definitely deserve it."
Tennessee Volunteers Tennis tweeted out a congratulatory statement for the Bruins in an excellent display of sportsmanship:

This was an absolutely unbelievable tournament for the Belmont men's tennis program, and it will definitely be one that the school history books will remember for a long time, and because of this win, Inno/Ilic will now move into the ITA Fall National Championships, which will take place November 7-11 in Surprise, Ariz.
The next Belmont event will be the Louisville Invitational starting Friday, October 19, in Louisville, Ky.
