TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Belmont men's tennis doubles duo of junior Hendrik Inno and sophomore Marko Ilic continue to make history as they earned a spot in the ITA/Oracle Division I Doubles Rankings as announced by the ITA on Wednesday morning.
"This is an unbelievable accomplishment by Hendrik and Marko," said Mauricio Antun, Belmont's Director of Tennis. "They were already a good team last spring, but their run this fall in the ITA Regional tournament was tremendous. They have been working very hard for this and they definitely deserve to be among the best in the country."
The duo is ranked 32nd in this week's national rankings. They are the first Belmont doubles duo, male or female, to earn a spot in the ITA rankings. Their appearance in the rankings is the result of a successful fall season which saw the pair win the ITA Ohio Valley Regional and earn a spot in the ITA Fall National Championship last November.
"When I was younger, my dad always used to say to focus on improving myself and the ranking will eventually come, said Ilic. "Of course, getting ranked means a lot to Hendrik and me because it proves us that we belong there with other nationally recognized guys. My goal for us is to keep focusing on improving our game and making other schools, coaches, and players feel afraid to play us."
Entering this week's play, the duo has an overall record of 15-5, with a 5-1 mark for the spring.
Inno and Ilic and their Belmont teammates will be back in action this weekend with a trio of matches. They host Grand Canyon on Friday and Chattanooga on Saturday and then travel to Vanderbilt for a Sunday afternoon tilt.
