NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont Men's Tennis program announces the addition of four players for the 2019-20 season: Bruno Nunes, Taisei Miyamoto, Felix Rauch, and Arthur Toledo.
"I am very excited about these four guys coming in," said Mauricio Antun, Belmont's Director of Tennis. "They all bring something different to our team, but all of them understand what we are trying to do here at Belmont, and they are looking forward to joining our strong group of returners. On top of that, they are very high-quality people on and off the court, and I can't wait to get started with them, as we have a challenging Fall season ahead that will prepare us well for the Spring."
Bruno Nunes joins the men's tennis program after highly successful prep career at Monteverde Academy outside of Orlando. The native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil helped his squad earn district, regional and state titles last year. In addition, he was a member of the Monteverde team that captured the DecoTurf High School Tennis Team Championship last March.
"Bruno is a high school national champion that loves to compete and understands the meaning of the "team first" culture that we are trying to build in our program, and he will do everything he can to help our team be better and reach our goals.," said Antun.
Taisei Miyamoto, a native of Chiba, Japan, comes to Belmont after spending the last two seasons at ETSU. While in Johnson City, Taisei wen 7-8 in singles and 13-11 in doubles and helped the Bucs win back to back Southern Conference titles and earn berth to the NCAA Tournament.
"We are very happy that Taisei is joining us this fall," said Antun. "He is a very talented player with a lot of potential that we watched play against us and now I am glad that he will be on our side of the court representing Belmont."
Felix Rauch joins the Bruins from the University of Memphis. In his three seasons with the Tigers, the Osterode, Germany native earned 42 singles and 49 doubles wins and helped his team earn three NCAA Tournament berths.
"Felix brings a lot of experience from the 3 years that he played at Memphis, a consistent top 30 team in the country," said Antun. "He has played against the toughest competition in college tennis, has NCAA tournament experience, and I believe he will make a tremendous impact in our team."
Arthur Toledo comes to BU from Cerriitos College in California and will be eligible to play in the spring of 2020. Last season at Cerritos, the native of Brazil went 20-2 in singles and 14-4 in doubles. At the 2019 CCCAA Men's Tennis State Championships, Toledo reached the semifinals in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles.
"Arthur is a fierce competitor, the kind of guy that you have to work for every point if you want to beat him," said Antun. "I am very excited he decided to join us this spring and I strongly believe he will help us a lot this season, both on and off the court"
During the 2018-19 season, the men's tennis team went 12-10 and captured their second straight OVC regular season title. In addition, the doubles pair of Hendrik Inno and Marko Ilic reached the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship. They are the first Belmont tennis players (male or female) to reach the NCAA Individual/Doubles Championship.
