BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Senior thrower Stephen Gibson led the way for the few Bruins in competition Friday at Western Kentucky's Hilltopper Relays by garnering a pair of third-place finishes.
Gibson (Tuscola, Ill.), one of only three Belmont men's track and field team members competing on the first day of the meet in Bowling Green, Ky., finished third in both the shot put and the hammer throws. The meet will continue on Saturday.
In the shot put, Gibson threw 15.15 meters (49-8.5). He tossed the hammer 53.78 meters (176-5).
Freshman Reece Davidson (Arvada, Colo.) and sophomore Ryan Sheldon (Anchorage, Alaska) were also entered in the same events. Both throwers set new personal records in the shot put. Davidson threw 14.43 meters (47-4.25) to take sixth and Sheldon threw 12.89 meters (42-3.5) on the way to 11th.
Sheldon was eighth and Davidson 11th, respectively, in the hammer throw.
Saturday's action begins at 9 a.m. with the discus throwers.
