NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's track & field will compete in the 2019 OVC Outdoor Championships this weekend at Southeast Missouri.
The Bruins, who earned a program-best silver medal in last year's edition, are poised to challenge for individual and team podiums.
Leading the way are senior and past NCAA regional qualifier Nate Nammour (Tampa, Fla.) in the 400m and 200m and junior Drake Mitchell (Nashville, Tenn.) in the decathlon. Both are All-OVC selections primed to win individual events.
Other Bruins vying for high points and medals - based on qualifying times and marks - include cross country national qualifiers freshman Jacob McLeod (Soperton, Ga.) and junior Kaleb McLeod (Soperton, Ga.). The younger brother could pace the 5000m field, while the elder is in the mix in the 10,000m.
Junior Ben Weisel (Nashville, Tenn.) (1500m), junior Alex Miller (Colorado Spring, Colo.) (400 hurdles), junior Braden Carei (Uniontown, Pa.) (pole vault), freshman Reece Davidson (Arvada, Colo.) (shot put), sophomore Ryan Sheldon (Anchorage, Alaska) (discus), senior Stephen Gibson (Tuscola, Ill.) (hammer), junior Aidan Thompson (Dunfermline, Scotland) (3000m steeplechase) and freshman Bo Miller (Lawrence, Kan.) (javelin) are also serious championship contenders.
The 2019 OVC Outdoor Championships will be streamed live and on demand via ESPN+ with live results posted on ovcsports.com and Belmont twitter.
