NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Head Coach Jeff Langdon and company return to the trails next week to start the 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at Percy Warner Park for the Belmont Opener. The men's team returns three seniors with a group of young talent that are looking to contribute right away.
"We have a lot of new faces on both teams." stated Langdon. "We have three freshman on the girls side and five new men. That's the exciting part every year, to see how they will mesh with the upperclassmen. In that respect, there is a lot of excitement and anticipation on how the team comes together this year."
Returning this season on the men's side is brother duo of sophomore Jacob McLeod and senior Kaleb McLeod. Both represented the Ohio Valley Conference in 2018 as Freshman of the Year and All OVC respectively. Jacob was second at the OVC Championship last year while Kaleb finished fifth; both would qualify for the NCAA Championship; the first time in Belmont history that multiple distance runners reached NCAA Division I nationals in the same season.
When looking at the men's roster you see a few of the same last names, "we got a lot of brothers on the team" smiled Coach Langdon. Junior Jackson Grzymkowski is welcoming his younger brother, freshman Harrison, and sophomore twins Taylor and Jackson Vroon. The Vroon brothers return to Belmont, both finished top 60 overall at the 2018 OVC Championship.
