NASHVILLE, Tenn - The Belmont men's cross country team opens the season this Friday at the Belmont Opener 5K run at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.
According to the U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Belmont men open the season ranked seventh in the South Region, the highest for any Ohio Valley Conference team in the South Region. Tennessee Tech University was the only other OVC squad to make the preseason regional poll.
"This is a great opportunity for our freshmen to get out there and get use to a college environment, it is an opportunity to see where everybody is at (fitness wise)," cross country and track & field program director Jeff Langdon said.
Sophomore Jacob McLeod is looking to defend his 2018 Belmont Opener title, as he won last year's race with a time of 15:24.85.
The Bruins will be playing host to a handful of Tennessee schools including Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, Tennessee Tech University, and Tennessee State University.
In all, four regionally ranked teams will take the starting line.
The men's 5K race starts at 5 p.m.
