NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Following a breakout game and a big Belmont women's basketball victory, forward Conley Chinn has been named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
Chinn (Jackson, Miss.) was selected as this week's top freshmen, the league announced Tuesday morning, after co-leading the Bruins in scoring during their thumping of rival Lipscomb in the Battle of the Boulevard last Tuesday. Chinn set a slew of career highs in what was Belmont's only game of the week.
She scored 15 points, tied for the game high, on 6-of-9 shooting with a 3-of-4 mark from 3-point range. All are career bests. She also tied career highs with five rebounds and a block.
Chinn's big numbers were boosted by a particularly dominant stretch to open the fourth quarter. She scored 11 straight points for the Bruins, all in a span of just 88 seconds of game time.
"Conley did a great job of taking advantage of her opportunities against Lipscomb," Belmont Head Coach Bart Brooks said. "She's a shooter and we knew she had it in her. She'll keep pushing herself to take the next step and I'm excited to see what else she can do for us this year."
The weekly award is Belmont's first this season from the OVC. Two Bruins were previously named conference players of the week by College Sports Madness. Senior Darby Maggard was honored on Nov. 19 while junior Ellie Harmeyer was selected the following week on Nov. 26.
Belmont is back in action next Monday, Dec. 17, when the Bruins travel to Chattanooga for a non-conference contest. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).
