NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's basketball senior Jenny Roy has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Roy (Brentwood, Tenn.) is one of just five representatives from the NCAA Division I's District 3, which covers all programs in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virgina.
CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot for future voting. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America selections will be announced in mid-March.
Roy, a marketing major, holds a cumulative 3.98 GPA and is a three-time selection for the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. She also earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor last year for her 4.0 GPA through the 2017-18 academic year.
Roy is also a starting guard for the Belmont women's basketball team and was a preseason All-OVC selection prior to her senior year. She's lived up to the expectations, averaging 9.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field.
She is the only Division I player in the NCAA this season averaging at least eight points and five assists per game.
Roy also recorded just the third triple-double of Belmont's Division-I era (since 1997) earlier this season with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Austin Peay on Jan. 26. Just a week later she logged Belmont's first 20-rebound game in more than a decade.
It's the second straight year a Bruin was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Recent graduates Sally McCabe and Kylee Smith were both chosen a year ago.
