Season Opener at Sewanee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team opens its 2018-19 season this Sunday as they take on Sewanee in a dual match in Sewanee, Tennessee.

The Bruins enter the season with plans to improve on their scoring, their team finishes and their sixth place showing at the OVC Championship.

The squad returns five players from last year's team and three newcomers.  Leading the way are senior Emma Kate Liu and sophomore Maribeth Peevy

Liu, a Dallas, Texas native, played in all 10 events last season.  She posted a 79.2 scoring average and had three top-10 finishes, including a fifth place showing at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.

Peevy had a solid first season as a Bruin.  Named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team, she ranked second on the team in scoring average and had five top-20 finishes.

BU has three newcomers on this year's team.  Courtney Bryant was a four-time State Tournament qualifier in Texas and placed in the top-20 in the Texas Girls Junior twice.  Katelyn Dunstan is an Arkansas native, who won the state's 4A State Individual Title the last three years and was All-State four times.  Panama City, Florida product Cameron Fish placed in the top-10 the last two seasons in the State Tournament and is a two-time Emerald Coast Golf Tour Champion.

This weekend's opponent is the Sewanee Tigers.  The Tigers are one of the top programs in NCAA Division III.  They return eight players from last year's team that finished the season ranked 19th nationally by Golfstat.
