MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – After posting the lowest first round in the program's OVC Championship history, the Belmont women's golf team stands in fourth place after round one of the OVC Championship held Monday on the Schoolmaster Course at the RTJ Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
In Monday's first round, the Bruins posted a team score of 301 to put them in fourth place. They are 10 shots behind team leader Murray State, seven back of second place Jacksonville State, and five behind third place Eastern Kentucky. Their score of 301 is the lowest first round in Belmont's OVC Tournament history, besting the old mark of 306 set in 2015 at Hampton Cove.
Three Belmont golfers are among the top-15 after 18 holes. Sophomore Maribeth Peevy leads BU as she is tied for fourth place after carding a one over par 73 on Monday. She is two shots behind the individual leaders, Linette Holmslykke of Murray State and JSU's Paula Vega (71). In addition to Peevy, freshman Cameron Fish is tied for 11th place after shooting a three-over par 75, while junior Julia Nittoli is tied for 15th place after posting a 76.
The second round of the championship will begin Tuesday morning at 8:00am. The Belmont golfers will be teeing off the first hole from 8:50-9:30am.
