LEXINGTON, Ky. – Led by Julia Nittoli's individual title, the Belmont women's golf team finished runner-up at this week's Morehead State/Greenbrier Invitational held at Greenbrier Country Club in Lexington, Kentucky.
Nittoli, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, shot a one-under par 71 in Tuesday's final round to clinch medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 217. She finished two shots ahead of Emily Keeling of Lipscomb. In addition. she was also the only player in the field on Tuesday to break par.
It's the first individual title for Nittoli and the first for the program since Mallory Sullivan earned medalist honors at the APSU Intercollegiate during the 2017-18 season.
Nittoli's title helped the Bruins finish runner-up in the team standings. The team posted a final round team score of 297 to finish the event with a three-round score of 912, just four shots behind tournament champion Lipscomb (908) and five ahead of third place Austin Peay (917). It was the best finish for the program since they posted two second places finishes during the fall of 2017 (Arkansas State & Town and Country).
In addition to Nittoli, two other Belmont golfers earned top-20 finishes. Sophomore Katelyn Dunstan carded a one-over par 73 to finish in ninth place at 228. It was her second career top-10 finish. Fellow sophomore Cameron Fish finished in a tie for 17th place at 233. She posted a 77 in the final round to clinch her fourth career top-20 finish.
The women's golf team will be back in action on September 30-October 1 at the ASPU Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tennessee.
