NASHVILLE, Tenn.- After scoring two game-winning goals to help Belmont land a spot in the OVC Semifinals, junior forward Julie Garst was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The Franklin, Tenn., native lifted Belmont to a pair of OVC Tournament wins last weekend, scoring three of the Bruins' four goals. Just 51 seconds in overtime of the first round match against Austin Peay on Friday, Garst netted the game-winning goal to advance Belmont to the quarterfinal stage.
She scored a pair of goals in Sunday's OVC Quarterfinal matchup against UT Martin, including the game-winning goal with 10 minutes left to play, to help the Bruins become the first No. 6 seed since 2015 to advance to the OVC Semifinals.
Leading the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points this season, Garst also earned national recognition on Tuesday. Garst was given honorable mention honors by TopDrawerSoccer for top performances in college soccer.
Belmont continues its postseason run on Friday, facing No. 2 seed Murray State in the OVC Semifinals in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
