NASHVILLE, Tenn.- With the NCAA women's soccer selection show revealing Belmont women's soccer's destination, the Bruins are scheduled to play at North Carolina on Saturday at 5 p.m. CST.
After winning the OVC Tournament Championship, the first conference tournament championship since 2008, Belmont punched its ticket into the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. The Bruins defeated Austin Peay, UT Martin, Murray State and SIUE in a shootout, becoming the first No. 6 seed to win the OVC Tournament.
Julie Garst scored three of Belmont's six tournament goals, earning OVC Tournament MVP honors in the process. Senior goalkeeper Lily Herman, sophomore defender Rachel Vernon, and senior forward AB Hawkins also earned a spot on the All-OVC Tournament team.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools, with Belmont's last matchup with a Power 5 school resulting in a scoreless draw to Georgia on Sept. 5. The Bruins played at Auburn in its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008, falling short 2-0.
North Carolina is coming off an ACC Tournament Championship and have a record of 19-1-1, earning one of the No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
