Road to 300

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont Softball may get down but don't ever count them out.  The Bruins (16-4) were forced into extra innings and went on to record a dramatic 7-6 victory in the bottom of the ninth inning over Ball State (16-9) to open the Belmont/TSU Invitational.  BU completed the sweep of the day, shutting down Samford (5-22), 2-0, handing Head Coach Brian Levin his 300th career victory.

Junior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.) smacked a hit up the middle to send the winning run over the plate, breaking a 6-6 stalemate in the ninth inning.

In the nightcap, the Bruins battled late into the contest before sending a pair of runs over the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Belmont held on to collect its seventh shutout of the season, 2-0, over Samford.

For the day, freshman Georgia McKee (Frisco, Texas) and junior Taylor Hargrove (Greenbrier, Tenn.) led the Bruins at the plate, both batting .500.

Inside the circle, senior Lexi Rouse (Macon, Ga.) picked up a pair of wins, tossing nine innings over the two contests.  Sophomore Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) threw seven innings and retired 11 batters.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday for the second day of the Belmont/TSU Invitational.  BU takes on St. Bonaventure at 10 a.m. and Rhode Island at 12:15 p.m. at Rose Park.  Both games will have live stats available and can be seen live on the OVC Digital Network.
