NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball opened Fall Ball play in fine fashion with a pair of wins over the weekend at E.S. Rose Park.  The Bruins picked up a pair of wins over visiting Vol State, 6-5, and 10-0.

Game one saw junior Bailey Sims (Flowery Branch, Ga.) and sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) go 2-for-2 at the plate heading into the slim 6-5 victory.  Inside the circle, newcomer Brittany Kennett (Melbourne, Australia) rang up five strikeouts in two innings of work while perennial workhouse junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) retired five batters over three innings.

The nightcap saw the Bruins blow by the Pioneers, 10-0.  BU recorded 14 hits as a team led by senior Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas), who went 3-for-3 at the plate.  Classmate Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.) went 2-for-3 while sophomore Cheyenne Cavanaugh (Spring, Texas) was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2.  Freshman Taylor Marciniak (Chesapeake, Va.) went 2-for-4 in the rout.

Inside the circle, the Bruin pitching corps put on a show.  Kennett, Lee, Veltri and sophomore Autumn McDanel (Moravia, Iowa) put in work to seal the no-hitter.  Kennett led the way with a total of five strikeouts over her two innings inside the circle.

Belmont returns to action on Saturday, October 6 with a pair of games at Lipscomb's Draper Diamond.  The Bruins take on the host-Bisons at 10 a.m. before facing off against Lee at 3 p.m.
