NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After spending the entire month of February without a single home contest, Belmont Softball comes home to E.S. Rose Park to host the annual Bruin Classic this weekend. The Bruins (6-4) welcome Alabama A&M (8-4), Dayton (4-5) and Northern Kentucky (3-5) to Nashville for the three-day tournament.
Northern Kentucky makes the short trip to Nashville looking to extend its win streak of late that has the team standing at 3-5 overall. The Norse are led at the plate by Madi Mulder, who is batting .542 with 13 hits, one double and six RBI. Toree Stalter leads the team with a pair of homeruns, two doubles and nine hits to bat .346. Inside the circle, Taylor Ginther has tossed 29.2 innings to lead the pitching corps. She also has 13 strikeouts a 3-2 record, and a 2.36 ERA.
Alabama A&M, who stand at 8-4 overall, brings a six-game win streak to the 2019 edition of the Bruin Classic. Led at the plate by Tamia Lee-Barbadillo, who is batting .405 with three triples, four homeruns and 14 RBI. The Bulldogs pitching corps has two doing the lion's share of the work. Danielle Hansell has tallied a 3.09 ERA over 32 innings of work with 10 strikeouts while Lauren Hayden has recorded a 5.01 ERA over 41.1 innings with 34 strikeouts and a 5-1 record.
Dayton has lost three of its last four outings to stand at 4-5 overall. The Flyers are led at the plate by Kyle Davidson, who is batting .414 with 12 hits, a pair of doubles and four RBI. Abby Ehrenborg leads the team in homeruns with a total of three. Inside the circle, Jessica Gilliam leads in ERA, coming in at 2.10 and a 2-2 record with 14 strikeouts over 20.0 innings. Jessica Weaver is right behind her with a 1-2 record after 22 innings with 15 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA.
BU stands at 6-4 overall after taking a trip to play in the 16th annual Georgia Classic last week. The Bruins' are led at the plate by sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.), who is batting .458, pushed by a slugging percentage of .792, with two doubles, a pair of homeruns and 12 RBI. Senior Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas) is batting .303 with 10 hits, a team-leading four doubles, two homeruns and 20 RBI.
Inside the circle, junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) continues her dominant performance from one year ago. She has an ERA of 2.10 with 30 strikeouts over 30 innings of work for a 3-1 record with a save. Double-threat Veltri has posted a 2.42 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 26 innings for a 3-2 record.
Belmont begins play at the Bruin Classic on Friday at 2 p.m., taking on Northern Kentucky before facing off against Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. in the nightcap. On Saturday, BU plays Dayton at 12:15 p.m., followed by Alabama A&M at 2:30 p.m. The tournament concludes with the Bruins facing off against Northern Kentucky on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. All games will have live stats available and Saturday's contests can be seen on ESPN+.
