NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball hits the road for a midweek tilt in familiar territory on Wednesday. The Bruins (12-6) make the short trip south to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee State (13-11).
Long-time rival MTSU has won three of its last five outings to stand at 13-11 coming into Wednesday's matchup. The Blue Raiders are led at the plate by Summer Burgess, who is batting .354 with 29 hits, three doubles and eight RBI. Jocelynn De La Cruz has notched 22 hits, six doubles, a pair of homeruns and 14 RBI to bat .310. Inside the circle, six pitchers have seen action but two are doing the lion's share of the work. Corrina Dodd has thrown 48.2 innings, recording 27 strikeouts to the tune of a 2.88 ERA with a 6-2 record, including one save. Kailey Armstrong has tossed 45.2 innings, fanning 30 batters to post a 3.68 ERA with a 4-4 record and one save.
BU stands at 12-6 overall after traveling to Memphis for its final non-conference tournament of the season. Belmont has six players batting over .300. The team is led at the plate by sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.), who is batting .449, lifted by a slugging percentage of .837, with four doubles, five homeruns and 23 RBI. Senior Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas) is batting .300 with 18 hits, a team-leading five doubles, four homeruns and 18 RBI.
Inside the circle, junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) continues to lead the Bruin pitching corps. She has an ERA of 1.69 with 56 strikeouts over 54 innings of work for a 6-2 record with a save and a pair of shutouts. Double-threat Veltri has posted a 2.14 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 49 innings for a 6-2 record and a team-leading 10 appearances.
