Senior Weekend Stand

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Softball continues its second-longest homestand of the season this weekend at E.S. Rose Park with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders. The Bruins (24-15, 6-6 OVC) host Jacksonville State (25-11, 9-3 OVC) on Friday and Tennessee Tech (16-18, 6-6 OVC) on Sunday.

The Gamecocks come to Nashville after winning two of their last five outings to stand at 25-11 overall and 9-3 in OVC play. Jacksonville State is led at the plate by Taylor Beshears, who is batting .398 with 49 hits, eight doubles, 12 homeruns and 30 RBI. Anna Chisolm has posted a .340 batting average with 34 hits, a pair of doubles, 12 homeruns and 31 RBI. Doing the lion's share of the work inside the circle is Faith Sims. She has thrown 127.2 innings and recorded 126 strikeouts for a 1.81 ERA and a 16-3 record.

TTU snapped a four-game skid with a doubleheader split with Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles stand at 16-18 overall and 6-6 in league play. Tennessee Tech is led at the plate by Beth McCulley, who is batting .366 with 41 hits, eight doubles, one homerun and seven RBI. Inside the circle, Alyssa Arden is doing the heavy lifting for the team, hurling 105.1 innings. She has an ERA of 2.86 with 86 strikeouts to the tune of a 10-7 record, including four shutouts.

BU stands at 24-15 overall and 6-6 in OVC games after a doubleheader sweep of crosstown rival Tennessee State in a midweek series. Belmont has eight players batting over .300, led by senior Taylor Hargrove, who is batting .357 with 10 hits and a triple. Classmate Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas), who is the reigning OVC Player of the Week selection, follows batting .350 with 42 hits, 12 doubles, six homeruns and 34 RBI. Senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.) is batting .349, with 44 hits, seven doubles, a trio of homeruns and 28 RBI.

Inside the circle, the Bruin pitching corps is led by junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.). She sports a 1.99 ERA after fanning 115 batters with four shutouts and a save for an 11-6 record. Sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) has 12 complete games under her belt with 106 strikeouts recorded over 109.1 innings tossed for a 10-7 mark with a 2.24 ERA.

Friday's doubleheader with Jacksonville State begins at 3:30 p.m. at Rose Park while Sunday's duel with Tennessee Tech is set to begin at 1 p.m. After Sunday's game, Belmont will honor its senior class – Hayley Baker, Baylee Cook, Taylor Hargrove, Sami Long, Cameryn Strother, and Chelsea Thomas.
