NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After helping lift Belmont Softball to four wins last week, senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. It marks the first time in her career she has received the honor.
The Lewisburg, Tenn., native exploded at the plate for Belmont over the last three doubleheaders, posting three extra base knocks and extending her current hitting streak to nine games. Against crosstown rival Tennessee State in a midweek clash, she batted .625, going 5-for-8 with a double, four RBI and a stolen base. Three days later against Jacksonville State, Cook collected three hits, including a triple and two RBI to help Belmont earn its first win over the Gamecocks since 2015.
In the week's finale versus Tennessee Tech, the senior went 6-for-7 at the plate with a triple, a pair of runs, an RBI and two stolen bases. She also posted a slugging percentage of 1.143 against the Golden Eagles.
Cook moved up to No. 37 among all NCAA Division I players in hitting. In the OVC, she stands tied for first in hits and is tied for second in triples in league games only. For all games this season, Cook is fourth in hits (53), eighth in on-base percentage (.447), and ninth in runs scored (32).
Cook and the rest of the Bruins return to action on Tuesday at E.S. Rose Park. Belmont hosts in-state rival Chattanooga for a single game beginning at 5 p.m. Live stats and an audiocast will be available.
