Women's Tennis Opens Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Belmont women's tennis team will start off the fall season with the annual Austin Peay State University Fall Classic on Sept. 14-15.

With competition at the tournament including four Ohio Valley Conference teams, the tournament will be a great benchmark to see how OVC competition could go coming off the 2018 spring season.

The Bruins will face off against Austin Peay, Chattanooga, Murray State, SEMO, Central Arkansas and UT Martin.

Murray State is coming off of spring season with a second place ranking and an 8-1 OVC record. Behind them, Austin Peay finished the spring season with a 6-3 conference record with the three-time defending OVC Player of the Year Lidia Yanes Garcia returning.

Head Coach Mark Srouji said he is excited to see how they play against the other schools.

"We have been working hard in practice and I am ready to see them play other players as well as getting the two freshman on the court for their first collegiate event," Srouji said.

The 2018-19 team consists of one senior, six sophomores and two freshman.

The APSU Fall Classic begins Friday at the Governors Tennis Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.
