Women's Track and Field Takes Seventh After Day One of Atlantic Sun Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Belmont women's track and field team opened the 2012 Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships notching a seventh place finish after the first day of competition.  The Bruins recorded six top-10 finishes to tally 15 points.


On the track, junior Courtney Bishop (Nashville, Tenn.) came away with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:24.61.  Senior Katelyn Eberhardt (Mishawaka, Ind.) took 10th in the event (12:05.72).  In the 10000m, senior Nicole Muldowney (Hoover, Ala.) placed fourth with a time of 36:52.21 while freshman Mia Elbon (Nashville, Tenn.) took seventh with a time of 37:57.81.  In the sprints, sophomore Jilian Linklater (Lake Orion, Mich.) finished 11th in the 100m Hurdles preliminaries with a time of 14.84.


The Bruins also fared well in the field events.  In the pole vault, sophomore Libby Cooper (Chambersburg, Pa.) and freshman Bobbi LeAnn Walters (O'Neill, Neb.) finished sixth (3.11m) and seventh (2.96m) place, respectively.


Belmont returns to action on Saturday on the final day of the 2012 Atlantic Sun Outdoor Championships.
