Wittman Named OVC Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont track and field sophomore Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) was named the OVC Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Wittman wrapped this year's indoor season, holding the top time amongst OVC competitors in two events.  Her time of 4:55.94in the Mile, set with a fifth-place finish at the Southern Miss Cupid Classic, broke the Belmont record in the event that had stood for seven years.  In the 3000m, the Lindenhurst, Ill., native crossed the line in 9:59.65 for a third-place finish at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.

"We are thrilled for Hannah," said Belmont's Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jeff Langdon.  "She has improved dramatically in the past year.

"Hannah epitomizes exactly what we are looking for in a Belmont student-athlete as a woman of character and conviction."

Wittman and the rest of the Belmont Track and Field team return to action this weekend at the OVC Indoor Championships, hosted by Tennessee State.
