TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Belmont Track and Field saw a pair of throwing records shattered on the first day of the Alabama Relays.
Junior Austin Landis (Victor, Mont.) set a new Belmont record in the javelin with his hurl of 57.72m (189'4"), shattering the previous mark by more than 15 feet. He also took 15th in the hammer throw (51.57m).
Freshman Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) set a new school record in hammer throw with a toss of 44.61m (146'4"). Her mark gave her an 11th place finish in a very deep field. Junior Clare Sobon (Somerset, N.J.) took 14th in the event.
"It was a fantastic first day," said Assistant Coach Joe Frye. "Two records along with some great throws by the other athletes really made for a good start to the weekend."
