STANFORD, Calif. – Several Belmont Track and Field athletes turned in strong performances this weekend in California. The group of student athletes recorded four top-20 finishes at the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
At the Stanford Invitational, junior Marcus Bridger-Wilkinson (Newbury, England) took fourth in the 1500m with a time of 3:45.05. Senior Jilian Linklater (Lake Orion, Mich.) notched a fifth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m (5'3").
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, sophomore Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) set a new personal record in the 5000m with her time of 16:58.37. Her time helped her to place 10th in a deep field while on the men's side in the same event, junior David Everett (St. Louis, Mo.) took 20th (15:08.26) in a field brimming with strong competitors.
"We had some pretty solid performances out here," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jeff Langdon. "While it wasn't a PR, Marcus ran a solid 1500 in a very competitive heat at Stanford. He held his own out there, and it really bodes well for when he gets to the regional meet next month.
"Hannah had a huge PR in 5k at San Francisco State. Coach Casavant and I are really excited to see where she will end up by the end of the season."
"It was a great opportunity to come out to a meet like Stanford and see some new competitors. While it wasn't the result we were looking for, it was a great learning experience for Jilian," said Associate Head Coach Cameron Harvey.
Belmont returns to action the weekend of April 11-12 at the Boston-Moon Classic hosted by Tennessee State University.
