NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont Track and Field Teams will look to continue their record-breaking ways with this weekend's trip to the 29th annual Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by The Ohio State University. The Bruins will also have a competitor at the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Bruins will compete against over 30 other university teams, including host- Ohio State, Akron, Ball State, Central Michigan, Charleston (W.V.), Denison, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Heidelberg, Illinois State, Indiana State, Indianapolis, IPFW, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Michigan State, Murray State, Notre Dame, Oakland, Ohio, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Wesleyan, Shawnee State, Tiffin, Toledo, Wabash, Wayne State, Wheeling Jesuit, Wright State, and Youngstown State, as well as a host of unattached athletes from around the country. Current and past record holders for the Jesse Owens Track Classic include Olympic medalists John Drummond, Michelle Finn, Allen Johnson, Edwin Moses, and Dwight Stones.
On the track, Bruin fans should keep an eye on the women's 4x400m and men's 4x100m relay teams, junior Anna Carrigan (Alexandria, Ky.) and sophomore Emily Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) in the 400m, junior John Inniger (Arlington, Ohio) in the 200m, junior Alanzo Contini (Rock Town, N.Y.) in the 400m, junior Marcus Bridger-Wilkinson (Newbury, England), sophomore Eamonn Kichuk (Unionville, Ont., Canada) and freshman Olivia Hippensteel (Fort Wayne, Ind.) in the 800m, sophomore Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) in the 1500m, freshman Molly Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) in the 5000m and freshman Maggie Harahan (Greensboro, N.C.) in the 300m Steeplechase.
In the field events, fans should anticipate strong performances from senior Jilian Linklater (Lake Orion, Mich.) in the high jump, junior Clare Sobon (Somerset, N.J.) in the discus and hammer throws, Josie Hardin in the hammer throw, junior Austin Landis (Victor, Mont.) in the javelin and hammer throws and freshman Stuart Landis (Victor, Mont.) in the javelin.
The running events will open Friday with the women's 5,000 at 8 p.m. under the lights. Saturday's events will start at 10 a.m. Live results will be available.
Also competing this week is senior Matt Miller (LaPorte, Ind.), who will run the 10,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday night. A live video stream will be available.
