Track and Field Turns in Strong Performances at Jesse Owens Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont Track and Field Teams turned in more stellar results this weekend at the Jesse Owens Track Classic.  The Bruins picked up numerous top-40 finishes and set several personal records over the two-day meet.

On day one of the Jesse Owens Track Classic, Belmont notched several strong performances.  In the javelin, junior Austin Landis (Victor, Mont.) took fourth with a hurl of 60.02m (196'11") while freshman Stuart Landis (Victor, Mont.) finished seventh with a mark of 57.43m (188'5").  Sophomore Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) snagged an 11th place finish, setting a new PR with a time of 4:30.34, in the 1500m.  Also setting new PRs in the 1500m were freshman Mara White (Pataluska, Ohio) (4:42.83) and sophomore Jessie Wynn (Peoria, Ill.) (4:44.14), who both finished in the top-40.

On the final day of the meet, BU excelled with several student-athletes recording PRs in their respective events.  Junior Marcus Bridger-Wilkinson (Newbury, England) finished third in a field of more than 40 competitors with a new PR of 1:51.28.  Sophomore Emily Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) took third in the 400m with a PR 56.07 while junior John Inniger (Arlington, Ohio) was 14th in the 200m (21.80).  In the high jump, senior Sarah Wrieden (Middletown, Md.) set a PR with mark of 1.65m (5'5") to take 11th.

The Belmont women's 4x400m relay team finished ninth with a time of 3:55.79.

At the Mt. SAC Relays, senior Matt Miller (LaPorte, Ind.) took 19th in the Olympic Development Elite 10,000m with a time of 30:14.78.

The Bruins return to action May 2-3 at the OVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by SIUE.
