CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Belmont women's track and field team saw several strong performances highlight the 2015 OVC Indoor Championship over the weekend. The Bruins recorded 18 top-20 finishes over the two days of competition en route to finish eighth as team with a total of 40 points.
Highlights include junior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) grabbing a pair of silver medals, in the 5000m (17:04.46) and the Mile (4:58.48). She also earned bronze in the 3000m with a time of 10:02.63.
Junior Jessie Wynn (Peoria, Ill.) broke the Belmont record in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:15.97 in the prelims. She went on to take eighth overall in the event. Emily Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) just missed taking bronze in the 400m (57.19) by less than six-tenths of a second.
BU's Distance Medley Relay team of Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Anna Carrigan (Alexandria, Ky.), Megan Huning (Westlake Village, Calif.) and Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.) shattered the program record in the event by more than five seconds with a time of 12:11.17 to take third overall. The mark had stood untouched since 2009.
In the Pentathlon, senior Michelle Wicker (Spring Hill, Tenn.) took ninth overall with a total of 2,967 points.
Belmont will open the 2015 outdoor season on March 14 when it faces off against former conference rival Lipscomb in a dual meet.
