NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Belmont women's track and field team opened the Outdoor season with a convincing win over long-time rival Lipscomb in a Battle of the Boulevard Dual Meet. The Bruins toppled the Bisons, 75-65.
BU saw a day of strong performances, headlined by senior Clare Sobon (Somerset, N.J.), who broke the program's record in the hammer throw with a mark of 159'5.25", taking second overall. She previously set the mark a year ago. Sobon also won the Discus (38.74m).
"We were really fortunate the weather wasn't as bad as we were expecting. Both teams held a few athletes out of the meet in preparation for next weekend, but we got to see a lot of great performances from our underclassmen," said Jeff Langdon, Belmont's Director of Cross Country and Track & Field.
"This was a good opportunity for some athletes to try a different event," said Assistant Coach Joe Frye. "It turned out to be a really great meet and I think our athletes had a good bit of fun."
Belmont returns to action March 19-20 at the Alabama Relays.
