TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The throwers on the Belmont women's track and field team had a huge day to open the 2015 Alabama Relays. The duo of senior Clare Sobon (Somerset, N.J.) and sophomore Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) advanced to finals in a deep Hammer Throw field, notching top-12 finishes.
Sobon broke the Belmont record in the Hammer with a toss of 51.98m (170'6") to take seventh overall while Hardin finished 11th with a mark of 48.56m (159'4"), setting a PR.
"We're really happy with the way the Hammer turned out. Both girls got big personal bests and made finals in a big time meet. We're looking forward to the rest of the meet," said Assistant Coach Joe Frye.
Sobon, Hardin and their teammates return to action on Friday evening for day two of the Alabama Relays.
