CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- On the first day of the Austin Peay Invitational, the Belmont women's track and field team notched its first top-5 finish of the meet on Friday evening.
Sophomore Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) placed fourth in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 49.01m.
"This was a pretty strange setup for the throws. The ring was plywood, as opposed to the usual concrete, and wasn't very stable," said assistant coach Joe Frye. "I was really impressed with how our athletes threw so well considering the circumstances, and they deserve a lot of credit for the mental battle they all fought."
Hardin and the rest of the Bruins return to action on Saturday at the Austin Peay Invitational. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with races on the track beginning at 11 a.m.
