CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Fueled by a record-breaking mark, the Belmont women's track and field team built on its strong start and finished in ninth place with a total of 31 points at the 2015 OVC Outdoor Championship.
Highlighting the afternoon was a record breaking first-place performance in the 1500m by junior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) who shattered a 1983 OVC Record with a time of 4:26.65. It also set a new Belmont record in the event. Also in the event were freshman Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), who took eighth, followed by sophomore Molly Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) in 13th.
Wittman also went on to take bronze in the 5000m with a time of 17:24.18.
Senior Michelle Wicker (Spring Hill, Tenn.) took sixth place in the Heptathlon with a total of 4,253 points. Her best finish of the day was third in the 800m (2:34.40).
The women's 4x400m team placed seventh.
The NCAA East Preliminary Round will be held in Jacksonville, Florida May 28-30.
