NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Another record falls, another honor given to Belmont Women's Track and Field senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.). She was named the adidas® OVC Outdoor Female Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. It marks the third time this outdoor season she has received the honor.
Wittman used the experience of her competing in the grueling 10,000m one year ago where she finished 10th overall to steady herself in the field of 24 at the highly regarded Mt. SAC Relays. She bolstered that experience with a gritty outing to cross the line fifth overall with a time of 33.59.63. The mark shattered the program record set by Belmont great Keely Weaver that had remained untouched since the year 2000.
Her time is also now the best in the Ohio Valley Conference by more than two minutes and moves her into 12th-place nationally in the event.
Wittman and the rest of the Belmont Women's Track and Field team return to action this weekend with action split between the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State, and the Georgia Tech Invitational.
