Heading to Billy Hayes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's track and field team has one more time in the regular season to prepare before the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships next week.  BU will compete at the one-day Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University.

On the track, senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) makes an appearance in the Fast Section of the 1500m.  She already owns the top time in the OVC and stands 69th nationally in the event.  Sophomore Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) will look to move higher from her 11th place spot in the conference in the event.  She will also compete in the 800m, where she stands just outside of the top-20 fastest times in the league.

Freshman LaCarol Baynes (Houston, Texas) will vie in a pair of events – the 400m and the 100m Hurdles, where she has the 21st-fastest time in the OVC.   Also competing the 100m Hurdles will be classmate Jenna Langdon (Brentwood, Tenn.), who owns the 19th fastest time in the event, while freshman Mary Nevins (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) will vie in the 400m.

The throwing events will see many of the OVC's best vie for improved marks against strong competition from around the country.  In the Hammer Throw, freshman Alyssa Andersen (Oswego, Ill.) and junior Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) stand fourth and fifth, respectively, in the OVC with eyes on improving their marks.  Sophomore Morgan Tweddle (Centerville, Va.), who has the 16th-best toss in the conference, will face off against 15 other throwers in the Javelin.

In the High Jump, freshman Hannah Beth Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) will look to improve on her 11th-place standing in the OVC.

The single day Billy Hayes Invitational will have live stats available.  Fans can also follow the team's Facebook and Twitter accounts (@BelmontXCTF) for periodic updates during both meets.
