NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Record breaking performances in their final tune up before the upcoming OVC Outdoor Championship pushed senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) and sophomore Alyssa Andersen (Oswego, Ill.) to Athletes to Player of the Week nods, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. It is the first time Andersen has been recognized by the conference and marks the eighth time in her career Wittman has received the honor.
Wittman won the 1500m Fast Section at the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University, last weekend, setting a new program record in the process. Wittman beat out 10 other runners to cross the line in 4:23.06, shaving one second off the Belmont record she set earlier this year. Her time stands 55th fastest in the Nation and is the best in the OVC by more than five seconds.
Andersen leapt into the top-three of the OVC's best Hammer Throwers last weekend. At the Indiana University-hosted Billy Hayes Invitational, she finished eighth overall and set a new Belmont record by more than three feet with her mark of 52.90m.
Andersen, Wittman and the remainder of the Belmont Track and Field team return to action this weekend, May 13-14, at the OVC Outdoor Championship, hosted by Tennessee State University.
