NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University women's track and field team will travel to Charleston, Ill. to compete in the 2017 OVC Indoor Track and Field Championship Feb. 24-25.
The meet, hosted by Eastern Illinois University, will be the final meet of the 2017 indoor season.
The meet, held at Lantz Fieldhouse, will begin Friday at 9 a.m. with pentathlon and heptathlon events. Saturday, action will start at 9 a.m. with the remainder of the heptathlon events.
Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Southeast Missouri, SIUE, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and UT Martin will be joining Belmont in competition.
The Bruins have competed in five meets this indoor season with the most recent being the Music City Challenge Feb. 10-11.
Sophomore Alyssa Andersen (Oswego, Ill.) has had an impressive season in both the weight throw and the shot put. Andersen boasted third place finishes in both events at the MTSU Invitational on Feb. 4.
Senior Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) has added to the success of the Bruins with her performances in the weight throw with her best performance coming at the MTSU Invitational with a fourth place finish.
The Belmont distance crew has made great improvements all season long. At the Commodore Invitational, junior Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) recorded a personal best in the mile run with a time of 5:05.89. She won the event at the MTSU Invitational.
Junior Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.) has had a great season in the 3,000 meter run. She notched a personal best and top 20 finish in the event at the Music City Challenge amongst a field of strong competition with a time of 10:04.22.
