NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University women's track and field team completed the first day of competition at the OVC Indoor Championship in Charleston, Ill.
Belmont athletes competed in five events on Friday.
The Bruins were led by a fifth place finish in the 4,000 meter DMR. The team of junior Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.), sophomore LaCarol Baynes (Houston, Texas), junior Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), and junior Gabrielle Yatauro (Huntigton Beach, Calif.) crossed the finish line with a time of 12:23.12.
Sophomore Hannah Beth Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) boasted an eighth place finish in the high jump with a season best jump of 1.59 meters.
The Belmont weight throw squad of sophomore Alyssa Andersen (Oswego, Ill.) and senior Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) continued on their recent success in the weight throw as they both had season high throws. Andersen finished in 10th place with a throw of 15.65 meters, and Hardin finished in 12th place with a throw of 15.20 meters.
Freshman Abbie Witehurst (Franklin, Tenn.) boasted a 10th place finish in the preliminary round of the 60 meter dash.
"I was happy to see Hannah Beth score in the high jump and Kiera closed really well in the DMR. Our ladies will have to dig deep tomorrow to come away with some more points and higher places," said Assistant Coach Ashley Casavant.
