NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University women's track and field team will be competing at the Raleigh Relays and the Joe Walker Invitational this weekend.
The Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, will be held at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C. March 24-25.
There will be 100 schools and 2,217 entries competing this weekend. Belmont will travel participants from its distance groups including Kiera Weems (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.) and Kortney Schardt (Lindenhurst, Ill.)
The meet will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The Joe Walker Invitational, hosted by Ole Miss, will be held at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex in Oxford, Miss. March 24-25. The meet will begin on Friday at 1 p.m. Central time with the women's Hammer Throw and the start of the Heptathlon competition. Saturday, action will kick off at 9 a.m. with the Decathlon 110m Hurdles.
Fellow OVC members SIUE, Southeast Missouri, and Murray State will be competing. Neighboring Lipscomb will also be in attendance. Other notable entries include Arkansas State, Illinois State, Memphis, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss who is ranked 23rd nationally.
Last time out, the Bruins kicked off their outdoor season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The Bruins were led by their throws squad at Georgia Tech. Senior Josie Hardin (Acworth, Ga.) led Belmont with her sixth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.64 meters. Sophomore Alyssa Andersen (Oswego, Ill.) competed in three events, recording personal bests in both the shot put and the javelin. Freshman Katrina Quigley (Nashville, Tenn.) and Lark Morrison (Nashville, Tenn.) recorded personal bests in the 800 meter run with times of 2:27.47 and 2:27.91, respectively.
