BOWLING GREEN, KY – The Belmont University women's track and field team completed day one of competition at the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky on Friday.
The Bruins had five athletes compete in two events on the day.
Freshman Lauren Denemark (Willowbrook, Ill.) ran her first collegiate 3000 meter race with confidence as she led the Belmont distance crew with a time of 10:41.22 giving her the second place finish. Finishing on her heels were teammates freshman Sierra Lax (Columbus, Ind.) and senior Molly Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) finishing in third and fourth place respectively. Lax clocked in at a time of 10:53.64 while Foster crossed the finish line with a time of 10:55.48.
Andersen continues to improve during her sophomore campaign. Tonight, she boasted a season best throw with a mark of 50.44 meters.
Hardin was forced to shake off an error made by the meet staff that negated a huge throw, but bounced back and boasted a mark of 50.19 meters.
"Corey had an awesome day. Big PRs in both hammer and shot, and Stephen did the same. Alyssa and Josie had some great hammer throws on a slow ring. Josie had a big throw that the meet staff made an error on and it didn't get marked, but she had a great mentality the whole competition. Our squad is getting deeper and we are developing into a more consistent group all around. The 3K women raced really well in a relatively slow head and Lauren Denemark showed a lot of passion this evening," said Assistant Coach Frye.
