Bradley Invitational Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont University Volleyball hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Illinois to play in the CEFCU Invitational, hosted by Bradley (0-3). Also playing in the two-day tournament are DePaul (3-0) and Oakland (2-1). BU has only met each of the tournament participants once before, all during the 2005 season.

The Bruins open the tournament taking on host-Bradley on Friday afternoon. The Braves are on the hunt for their first win of the season after being held off in three contests at the SMU Doubletree Invitational. BU is led in kills by Rachel Pranger and Hannah Thompson, who have contributed 30 and 29, respectively. Hailey Delacher leads the team in assists with a total of 44 while Serena Sparks leads the team in digs with a total of 38. Karagan Coggin has rang up five solo blocks in the early season.

Bradley won the first and only meeting between the programs back in 2005 in Peoria.

Belmont takes on DePaul in the evening session on day one. The Blue Demons sport an unblemished record in the early season, standing at 3-0 after winning the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational, hosted by Missouri State. Brittany Maxwell leads DU in kills with a total of 49. Katie Dolan has recorded 81 assists to lead the team while Isabelle Banez has tallied 62 digs to lead the squad. Maxwell also leads the team with five solo blocks while Avarie Evans-Allen has collected 15 block assists.

Belmont closes the tournament on Saturday taking on Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies stand at 2-1 overall after a turn at the Michigan Invitational. Jamie Walling leads the team in kills with a total of 37. AnnaBelle Tomei and Madison Ross share duties in setting, tallying 56 and 46, respectively. Lindsay Wightman leads in digs with a total of 34. Walling has also posted seven service aces.

Belmont wrapped its longest homestand of the month earlier this week with a 3-0 victory over visiting Alabama A&M. Junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) leads BU with 49 kills, followed by sophomore Mary Catherine Ball (Hendersonville, N.C.), who has tallied 37. Van Poppel currently stands fifth in the OVC in kills, as well.

Sophomore Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) tallied 77 assists while junior Akia Warrior (Fort Worth, Texas) has posted 62. Mason has also knocked down eight service aces, good for third in the OVC in the category. Sophomore Faith Cobaugh (Union, Ky.) contributed 61 digs and stands second in the category in the league. Freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) notched 13 block assists through the tournament and stands fourth in the OVC in the category.
