NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The long-time Battle of the Boulevard rivalry with Lipscomb awaits Belmont University Volleyball to open play this week. The Bruins (1-6) return to the friendly confines of the Curb Event Center to host the Bisons (1-4) for a Tuesday night duel.
LU makes the short trip down the Boulevard looking to improve on its 1-4 mark in the young season. The Bisons are led in kills by Lanie Wagner, who has recorded 56. Morgan Elmore does the heavy lifting in assists, collecting 164 assists so far. Alyssa Zwolensky leads the team in digs with a total of 67 while Maddie Phillips leads in blocks with a total of 14.
Belmont leads the all-time series, 26-17. However, Lipscomb has won the last six matchups, dating back to 2011.
Belmont returns to Nashville after a weekend stint in Illinois at the CEFCU Invitational, hosted by Bradley. Sophomore Mary Catherine Ball (Hendersonville, N.C.) and junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) lead the Bruins in kills, adding 67 and 66, respectively. Sophomore Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) leads BU in assists with a total of 151. Classmate Faith Cobaugh (Union, Ky.) has notched 74 digs to lead the team in the category.
Several Bruins are making statistical waves across the Ohio Valley Conference. Mason has knocked down 12 service aces, good for fourth in the league in the category while her assist tally has moved her into 10th conference wide. She also stands 32nd among all NCAA Division I players in service aces. Freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) has posted 31 blocks to stand fourth in the OVC in the category. She is also nationally ranked in blocks per set, coming in at 20th among all NCAA Division I players as of September 9. Bass is also ranked 47th nationally in blocks per set.
