NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Volleyball returns to the friendly confines of the Curb Event Center for the final time this month. The Bruins (1-10) will host regional foe Western Kentucky (9-1) for a duel on Tuesday evening.
The Hilltoppers head to Nashville after collecting three wins at their own Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational over the weekend to improve to 9-1 on the season. WKU is led in kills by Lauren Matthews, who has recorded 129. Nadia Dieudonne leads the team in assists with a total of 379 while Logan Kael leads in digs with a total of 123. Matthews has also amassed 11 solo blocks.
WKU leads the all-time series, 20-0. The teams last faced one year ago with the Hilltoppers winning, 3-0, in Bowling Green.
Junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas), who was named to the River City Rumble All-Tournament Team over the weekend, leads the Bruins in kills, tallying 127. Leading the team in assists is junior Akia Warrior (Fort Worth, Texas), after recording 242. Sophomores Peyton Kelley (Normal, Ill.) and Faith Cobaugh (Union, Ky.) led BU in digs, posting 98 and 97, respectively. Freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) has notched five solo blocks and a team-leading 38 block assists.
Several Bruins are making statistical waves among all NCAA Division I players and in the Ohio Valley Conference. Nationally, Bass is ranked 42nd in total blocks and 54th in blocks per set while Van Poppel is ranked 120th in total attacks and sophomore Mary Catherine Ball (Hendersonville, N.C.) is ranked 135th in points.
Sophomore Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) is ranked third in the OVC in service aces while Bass is ranked third in blocks. Van Poppel comes in at eighth in kills in the league while Ball is ranked ninth in the conference in points. Warrior and Mason are ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, in assists in the OVC.
