Bulldog Brawl Preview

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Volleyball hits the road to conclude non-conference play this weekend. The Bruins (1-11) head Indianapolis for the Bulldog Brawl, hosted by first-time opponent Butler (2-7). Loyola Marymount (4-5) and Pacific (6-3), both first-time opponents, are also playing in the two-day tournament.

Loyola Marymount heads to Indianapolis looking to break its streak of winning only one outing at a tournament. The stops and starts have the Lions standing at 4-5 on the season. LMU is led in kills by Rose Booth who has tallied 120. Mary Shroll leads the team in digs with a total of 114 while Tess Reid has tallied 218 assists to lead the team.

This will be the first meeting between the programs.

Host-Butler enters its home tournament looking to increase its winning ways of late, after snapping a six-match skid. The Bulldogs now stand at 2-7 overall.  BU is led in kills by Anna Logan, who has recorded 112. Megan Ramseyer leads the squad in assists with a total of 342 while Elizabeth Labue stands at the defensive lead with a total of 174 digs. Brooke Gregory has also tallied eight solo blocks.

This marks the first time the programs have met.

Pacific eyes extending its three-match win streak with its trip to Indiana. The Tigers stand at 6-3 after winning the UNLV Invitational. UOP is led in kills by Riley Patterson, who has recorded 107. Gabby Leo leads the team in assists with a total of 219 while Jadyn Tubbs leads in digs after collecting 146. Kennedy Kaminsky has posted seven solo blocks.

This will be the first meeting between the programs.

Junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) leads the Bruins in kills, tallying 139.  Leading the team in assists is junior Akia Warrior (Fort Worth, Texas), after recording 266. Sophomore Peyton Kelley (Normal, Ill.) leads BU in digs, posting 109. Freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) has notched five solo blocks and a team-leading 39 block assists.

Several Bruins are making statistical waves among all NCAA Division I players and in the Ohio Valley Conference. Nationally, Bass is ranked 42nd in total blocks and 54th in blocks per set while Van Poppel is ranked 120th in total attacks and sophomore Mary Catherine Ball (Hendersonville, N.C.) is ranked 135th in points.

Sophomore Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) is ranked second in the OVC in service aces while Bass is ranked fifth in blocks.  Van Poppel comes in at fifth in kills in the league and seventh in the conference in points. Warrior and Mason are ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, in assists in the OVC.

BU opens the Bulldog Brawl against Loyola Marymount on Friday afternoon. Live stats will be available for the entire tournament. Saturday morning's match versus host-Butler will be streamed on Facebook Live. Fans may also follow the team's Twitter account (@BelmontVB) for live, in-game updates.
