NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Belmont Volleyball plays the first of its last three home matches this weekend in the Curb Event Center. The Bruins (2-23, 1-9 OVC) host Eastern Kentucky (8-16, 3-7 OVC) on Friday evening for Alumni Night before taking on Morehead State (17-8, 8-2 OVC) on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day.
EKU snapped a three-match skid with a win last weekend to stand at 8-16 overall and 3-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Colonels are led in kills by Abby Noll, who has tallied 294. Rachel Woody leads the team in assists with a total of 535 while Dena Tekavec leads the team in digs with a total of 362. Kaylin Johnson has recorded 12 solo blocks.
BU leads the all-time series, 10-8. The Colonels have won four of the last five matchups, including the one earlier this season in Richmond.
The Eagles will look to extend their recent win streak to four when they come to Nashville, picking up wins in five of their last seven outings. The recent wins have improved MSU to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in the OVC. Olivia Lohmeier leads the team in kills with a total of 405 while Bridget Bessler leads in assists with a total of 760. The team in lead in digs by Allison Whitten, who has tallied 351. Mia Swearingen has rang up 15 solo blocks and Olivia Montelisciani has notched 36 service aces.
The all-time series is tied, 9-9, between the programs. The Eagles evened the series earlier this season in Morehead.
Junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) leads the Bruins in kills, tallying 246. Leading the team in assists is junior Akia Warrior (Fort Worth, Texas), after recording 439, followed by so Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill) with a total of 315. A trio of Bruins are splitting dig duty led by sophomore Peyton Kelley (Normal, Ill.) with 183, followed by Van Poppel with 181. Freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) has also notched a team-high eight solo blocks and a team-leading 54 block assists. Sophomore Mary Catherine Ball (Hendersonville, N.C.) has tallied 46 block assists.
Several Bruins are making statistical waves among all NCAA Division I players and in the Ohio Valley Conference as of October 27. Nationally, junior Halee Van Poppel (Argyle, Texas) is ranked 106th in total attacks, and 146th in total kills.
In the OVC, freshman Kailee Bass (Aurora, Ill.) stands ninth in blocks. Van Poppel comes in at seventh in kills in the league and ninth in the conference in points. Sophomore Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) is ranked ninth in assists and 10th in service aces.
Friday's match versus Eastern Kentucky is set to begin at 6 p.m. while Saturday's contest versus Morehead State has first serve set for 2 p.m. Both matches will have live stats available and both contests can be seen live on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the match on Saturday, Belmont Volleyball will pause to honor seniors Huntir Bass (Mobile, Ala.) and Akia Warrior (Fort Worth, Texas).
