TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Belmont women's cross country team will be competing in the NCAA South Regional 6k on Friday, November 9.
Belmont is currently coming off of a good OVC Conference Championship meet in which the team finished No. 3 in the meet and junior Kortney Schardt set a personal record for herself.
With the way Belmont finished two weeks ago, it is very possible for Belmont to crack the top 10 in the regionals meet, but assistant coach Kate Bucknam wants her girls to just focus on running a clean race before worrying about where they finish:
"I like to keep it open ended. I don't want to say, "Hey we can be in the top 10," even though I know that we can be, but I kinda let them determine that and just go out and compete and race. I they we're gonna end up with a good finish and surprise some people for sure."
The Bruins will be running in wet conditions tomorrow as there is an expectation of thunderstorms throughout the day with the high temperature being 80 degrees. However, Coach Bucknam believes that the Bruins will be up for the challenge.
"We've been training in the heat all season…I think we're gonna be okay. Weather is what it is, and everyone's running in it, so I don't think it will be too much of an issue."
The Bruins will begin their race at the home of Florida State at 7:30 A.M.(CT).
