OXFORD, MS -- Belmont (1-16) fell to Ole Miss, 0-5, in the final game of the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic. The loss capped a difficult offensive weekend for the Bruins, who were shutout in three straight games.
Belmont performed better defensively in the second meeting with the Rebels in straight days, going error free in seven innings of play. The Bruins surrendered two runs in the first and seventh innings, and gave up a run in the sixth inning. Belmont had four hits on the day, led by upper classmen. Seniors Ashley Byers and Hannah Irwin had one hit each and juniors Courtney Elrod and Becca Gift also had a hit each, although the Bruins still struggled at turning baserunners into runs.
The team will be back in action on Thursday, March 8th, when they travel to Cookeville, Tenn., for a double header against Tennessee Tech. It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. Belmont won the first meeting, 6-5, last weekend in Chattanooga.
