NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team opens up 2013 fall season this Sunday-Tuesday at the Chris Banister Classic hosted by Jacksonville State in Glencoe, Alabama.
Head Coach Lissa Bradford's squad will be a mix of veterans and newcomers. This year's team features three returning players and four freshmen. Coach Bradford hopes this mix of youth and experience will help the program make a run at a conference championship this season.
The three returners bring a lot of experience to the team this season. All three have played in at least 14 tournaments during their Belmont career. Senior Shay Sullivan was third on the team in scoring last season 79.8 and had three top-15 finishes, including a tie for third place at the Drake Creek Invitational. Sydney Hudson was second on the team in scoring average at 79.0 and posted seven top-20 finishes, including a 20th place finish at last April's OVC Championship. Evin Edens was hampered by injuries last season. In five events, she carded two top-30 finishes, including a tie for 23rd at the Racer Classic.
The four newcomers bring impressive resumes to this year's squad. All four (Alexi Bevans, Abbie Gregory, Megan Heath, and Maddie Williams) finished in the top-20 of their respective state championships last year, with three of them posting top-10 finishes. In addition, two of them played on State Championship teams during their high school career.
The Chris Banister Classic is a three-day, 54 hole event, with 18 holes scheduled for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The tournament will be held at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama.
