GLENCOE, Ala. – Buoyed by posting their lowest team score of the tournament in Tuesday's final round, the Belmont women's golf team moved up three spots and tied for sixth place at this week's Chris Banister Classic hosted by Jacksonville State at the RTJ Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama.
After starting the day in ninth place, the Bruins posted a final round score of 309 on Tuesday, which allowed them to move up to a tie for sixth place with UAB and South Alabama with a 54-hole mark of 953. Troy won the team title at 900, while Morehead State was second at 916.
Two Belmont golfers finished among the top-20. Freshman Mallory Sullivan (Smithville, Tenn.), competing as an individual, tied for 15th place at 232. She carded a five-over par 77 in Tuesday's final round. It was her first collegiate top-20 finish. Senior Sydney Hudson (Prince George, Va.) posted her second consecutive top-20 finish as she placed 19th with a score of 233. She carded a 79 in the final round.
Other Belmont scores from the event included: sophomore Abbie Gregory (T-31, 240), freshman Katie Story (T-35, 76), sophomore Megan Heath (T-41, 246), and sophomore Alexi Bevans (T-48, 241).
Troy's Fatima Fern Cano won individual medalist honors with a score of 217.
The women's golf team will be back in action on October 13-14 at the APSU Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tennessee.
